Considering BMW will charge you $100 diagnose the problem, then want to repair it for you, if you want to save money, try the resistor first. It will take you 10 minutes to replace. The wiring harness plugs into it, and it screws into the blower motor housing with 2 torx screws. So the main problem is the driver's side HEAT. The two "chest level" vents pointed directly at the driver are straight up blowing outside, cold air when everything is on max heat everywhere. (i.e. cold air on driver side, very warm on passenger side.) The driver footwell and windshield vents are warmer than the "chest level" vents, but only barely. Play with all the heater control knobs, spin them back and forth a few times, especially the one that's right on that big center vent (if you have it on your car), and change which level you're blowing (vent, window, floor). If it starts blowing warm after you do this, it's probably the heater control valve. First select Defrost, top button on Right side of IHKA (Climate Control) panel. Let that run for ~ 1 minute with warm engine. Then select Footwell air distribution (bottom button on Left side) for ~ 1 minute, then center vent discharge (middle button on Left side), and finally windscreen discharge (upper buttton on Left side).
